Students who major in finance develop skills and expertise in financial decision making.

Finance majors are encouraged to complete one of the following professional development experiences: an internship, a study abroad program, the University Scholars Program, McNair Scholars Achievement Program, extracurricular leadership experiences (e.g. philanthropic organizations, student organizations), or an honors thesis. Students should consult with an academic adviser for specific information.

Semester 1:

  • 2.0 UF GPA required for semesters 1-4
  • Complete 2 of the 8 critical-tracking courses. (ECO 2013, ECO 2023, MAC 2233, ACG 2021C, STA 2023, ACG 2071, CGS 2531, FIN 3403)
  • 2.5 GPA on all attempts of critical-tracking courses excluding FIN 3403

Semester 2:

  • Complete 2 additional courses of the 8 critical-tracking courses
  • 2.75 GPA on all attempts of critical-tracking courses excluding FIN 3403

Semester 3:

  • Complete 2 additional courses of the 8 critical-tracking courses
  • 3.0 GPA on all attempts of critical-tracking courses excluding FIN 3403
  • Complete ACG 2021C with a grade of C or better

Semester 4:

  • Complete 7 of the 8 critical-tracking courses excluding FIN 3403
  • 3.0 GPA on all attempts of critical-tracking courses excluding FIN 3403
  • Complete the CLAST exam or be exempted
  • Complete ACG 2071 with a grade of C or better

Semester 5:

  • Complete all 8 critical-tracking courses
  • 3.0 GPA on all attempts of critical-tracking courses excluding FIN 3403
  • Complete FIN 3403 with a grade of B or better (two attempts only)

GPA calculation for tracking courses:

The tracking GPA is calculated based on all attempts of the tracking courses or their equivalents. Once a student receives a grade of C or higher in a tracking course or its equivalent, no subsequent grade in that course or its equivalent will be used in calculation of the tracking GPA.

To remain on track, students must complete the appropriate critical-tracking courses, which will be bold.

Restricted electives: There is a minimum requirement of 11-12 hours of 3000/4000-level courses outside of business, accounting and foreign language at the 1000/2000 level.
