Introductory interdisciplinary study of contemporary 'Europe' from an arts and humanities perspective.

EUS 2003 European Experience: A Social Science Perspective
Credits: 3.
Introductory interdisciplinary study of contemporary 'Europe' from a social science perspective.

EUS 3100 European Cinema
Credits: 4 to 8; can be repeated up to 8 credits.
A study of films of one or more of the historically important national cinemas in Europe. The course is taught in English.

EUS 3110 Culture and Society in Europe
Credits: 3
Examines central issues in one or more of the various cultures and societies in Europe.

EUS 3120 War and Culture in Europe
Credits: 3
A survey of war in the modern era, its impact on European society, and the corresponding cultures of victory and defeat.

EUS 3300 Nationalism and the Idea of Europe
Credits: 3
How a European identity arose along with the emergence of nationalism during the Reformation, the wars of religion and the Englightenment.

EUS 3930 Undergraduate Seminar in European Studies
Credits: 3; can be repeated up to 9 credits. Prereq: department permission.
Intermediate rotating-topics course on various European issues. (H, N)

EUS 4130 European Identity

Some key themes on the ever-changing socio-cultural European realities, past and present.

EUS 4210 Politics and Institutions of the European Union
Credits: 3; Prereq: instructor permission.
History of institutions and theoretical interpretations of European Union (EU) from its origins to present including some general European history and background of EU's member status.

EUS 4211 European Union's Enlargement
Credits: 3; Prereq: instructor permission.
The course focuses on the EU institutions and the Union's continuous enlargement, as well as on the domestic politics of the applicant countries.

EUS 4905 Individual Work
Credits: 1 to 3.
Reading and discussions in advanced topics of European studies.

EUS 4930 Special Topics in European Studies
Credits: 3; Prereq: 3 credits of EUS-prefixed courses or instructor permission.
Advanced rotating-topics course on various European issues.

EUS 4931 Seminar in European Union Studies
Credits: 3; Prereq: 3 credits of EUS-prefixed courses or instructor permission.
Rotating-topics course directly related to European Union; co-developed with and funded by EU Commission's Jean Monnet program.

EUS 4933 Current Issues in European Studies
Credits: 3; Prereq: Permission of Instructor.
Examines current issues in one or more European countries from a variety of disciplinary perspectives.

EUS 4935 European Studies Seminar
Credits: 3.
Various topics in European history presented in a seminar format.

EUS 4950 Overseas Study in Europe
Credits: 1 to 6; Prereq: 3 credits of EUS-prefixed courses or instructor permission.
Advanced course on various European issues taught during study abroad in Europe.

Hungarian Language

HNG 1130 Beginning Hungarian 1
Credits: 5.
This course and its sequence, HNG 1131, constitute the basic sequence in Hungarian.

HNG 1131 Beginning Hungarian 2
Credits: 5; Prereq: HNG 1130 (grade of C or better, or S) or the equivalent.
Second semester of basic sequence in Hungarian.

HNG 1180 Elementary Hungarian: Review and Progress 1
Credits: 3.
Alternative to HNG 1130. This course is for students who have some experience in Hungarian. Reviews basic grammar and improves reading, writing and listening skills.

HNG 1182 Elementary Hungarian: Review and Progress 2
Credits: 3; Prereq: instructor permission.
An accelerated one-semester coverage of HNG 1130 and HNG 1131 for students with some experience in Hungarian, in preparation for HNG 2220.

HNG 2220 Intermediate Hungarian 1
Credits: 4; Prereq: HNG 1131 or placement test.
Intermediate study of speaking, reading, writing and listening comprehension skills with new vocabulary and grammar.

HNG 2221 Intermediate Hungarian 2
Credits: 4; Prereq: HNG 2220 or placement test.
Improves speaking, reading, writing and listening skills by building upon language principles introduced in HNG 2220.

Turkish Language

TUR 1130 Beginning Turkish 1
Credits: 5.
This course and its sequel, TUR 1131, constitute the introductory sequence in Turkish.

TUR 1131 Beginning Turkish 2
Credits: 5; Prereq: TUR 1130 grade of C or better.
Second semester of the introductory sequence in Turkish.

TUR 2220 Intermediate Turkish 1
Credits: 4; Prereq: TUR 1131 or placement test.
Intermediate study of speaking, reading, writing and listening comprehension skills with new vocabulary and grammar.

TUR 2221 Intermediate Turkish 2
Credits: 4; Prereq: TUR 2220 or placement test.
Improves speaking, reading, writing and listening skills by building upon language principles introduced in TUR 2220.

TUR 2340 Turkish for Heritage Learners 1
Credits: 3; Prereq: instructor permission.
For students with significant bilingual speaking and listening backgrounds. The main emphasis is on reading, writing and expanding vocabulary.
