Athletic Training
Description of the Major
The major offers the Bachelor of Science in athletic training. You will gain extensive understanding of the anatomical and physiological bases and consequences of human movement. You will learn how to prevent and diagnose injuries and illnesses that commonly occur to the physically active population as well as how to treat and rehabilitate injuries and illnesses within active populations.

Before Graduating You Must
  • Complete the cognitive, psychomotor and clinical proficiencies that determine your readiness to be an entry level athletic trainer, as determined by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education.
  • Satisfy the Florida statutory requirements for CLAST.
  • Complete requirements for the baccalaureate degree, as determined by faculty.
Skills You Will Acquire in the Major (SLOs)
  1. Integrate and apply principles and methods of math, social sciences and arts and humanities to the applied physiology and kinesiology environment.
  2. Identify the nomenclature, structure and location of the components of the human anatomy.
  3. Explain the mechanisms and processes that human cells, tissues, organs and systems undergo after injury and/or illness.
  4. Explain the effects of therapeutic modalities and therapeutic exercise on common injuries/illnesses of the physically active.
  5. Conduct a thorough evaluation of injuries and illnesses that occur during physical activity.
  6. Select and apply the treatments for both the acute care of and prevention of athletic injuries and illnesses.
  7. Select and apply the treatments for both the acute care of and prevention of athletic injuries and illnesses.
  8. Effectively collect, analyze and interpret quantitative data.
  9. Effectively communicate with sports medicine cohorts and professsionals through written text, oral messages and multimedia presentations.
