Majors

Music, Bachelor of Arts
College: Fine Arts
Degree: Bachelor of Arts
Hours for the Degree: 120
Concentrations: Ethnomusicology, History and Literature, Theory and Composition
Minor: No
Combined-Degree Program: No
Website: www.arts.ufl.edu/music

The B.A. curriculum is for students who want a liberal arts education with an emphasis in music. Students may minor in other subject areas such as English, psychology or history.

Elective Requirement: A minimum of 120 semester hours is required. An elective is any course taken outside of the major. Unless a minor is included, 18 credit hours of electives must be chosen from 3000-/4000-level courses in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) or the College of Fine Arts (CFA).

Students must take 10 hours of foreign language or show a minimum proficiency in a single language by taking a placement test. If the proficiency is met, it does not reduce the number of credit hours required for the degree. Foreign language may be taken S-U or for a letter grade, and the minimum grade is a C; credit may not be obtained through CLEP examinations. Upper-division electives at the 3000-/4000-level can be selected from any college.

All students pursuing the B.A. must consult a department adviser and get approval before attempting the elective portion of this program.

To graduate with this major, students must complete all university, college and major requirements.
