Interdisciplinary Engineering Studies (IES)

Students who wish to plan a program of study in engineering markedly different from the departments programs should contact the Office of Academic Programs in 312 Weil Hall. Requirements for admission to an interdisciplinary studies program include a strong educational commitment and a grade point average of at least 2.5. The program requires approval by a committee consisting of three engineering faculty and the academic dean of the college, and must satisfy the minimum engineering science course requirements. Completion leads to the BS degree.

To remain ‘on track’ for this major a student must meet the following critical tracking criteria. The critical tracking courses appear in bold.

Semester 1:

  • 2.0 UF GPA required for semesters 1-5
  • 2.5 GPA on all critical tracking course work for semesters 1-5
  • Complete 1 of 8 tracking courses with a minimum grade of C within two attempts. (CHM2045, CHM2046, MAC2311, MAC2312, MAC2313, MAP2302, PHY2048, PHY2049)

Semester 2:

  • Complete 1 additional course with a minimum grade of C within two attempts

Semester 3:

  • Complete 2 additional courses with a minimum grade of C within two attempts

Semester 4:

  • Complete 2 additional courses with a minimum grade of C within two attempts

Semester 5:

  • Complete all 8 critical tracking courses with a minimum grade of C in each course within two attempts
