Art Education

The curriculum in art education is designed for students who plan to teach art in the public schools. This curriculum, which is offered in cooperation with the College of Education, completes certification for teachers of art in Florida and all other NCATE states.

The speech requirement is met by ARE 4242 and 4243. The reading requirement is met with RED 3312. The introductory education and technology courses are ARE 2045 and ART 4930C. A portfolio review will be required of students before admission into junior-level studio courses.

Art Education

To remain ‘on track’ for this major, a student must meet the following critical tracking criteria. The critical tracking courses appear in bold.

Semester 1:

  • 2.50 UF GPA for semesters 1-2
  • Complete a total of 9 hours (ART1802C, ART1803C) or a total of 6 hours of any ART or PGY or GRA course at the 2000 level with a grade of C or better

Semester 2:

  • Complete 2 of 5 critical courses (ARE2045, ARH2050, ARH2051, 2 courses of ART/PGY/GRA 2000 level) with a grade of C or better

Semester 3:

  • 2.75 UF GPA required
  • Complete 2 additional critical courses with a grade of C or better

Semester 4:

  • 3.0 UF GPA for semesters 4-5
  • Complete 1 additional critical course with a grade of C or better
  • Complete the CLAST exam with posted test scores, no exemptions
