Exercise and Sport Sciences – Teaching in Physical Education

The teaching physical education specialization will lead to the Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Sciences with NCATE-approved teacher certification. Students are prepared to teach middle or secondary school physical education. This program also is a foundation for graduate study in educational administration or curriculum and instruction. All required courses must be completed before the internship.

To remain ‘on track’ for this major, a student must meet the following critical tracking criteria. The critical tracking courses appear in bold

Semester 1:

  • 2.2 UF GPA required
  • Complete 1 of the 6 critical tracking courses with a 2.5 GPA on tracking course work PSY2012, SPC2600 or AEE3030C; EDF1005; MAC1147 or MAC1140 and STA2023 or MAC1140 and MAC1114; PET2320C; PET2350C

Semester 2:

  • 2.4 UF GPA required
  • Complete 1 additional course of the 6 tracking courses with a 2.5 GPA on tracking course work

Semester 3:

  • 2.5 UF GPA required
  • Complete 2 additional courses of the 6 tracking courses with a 2.5 GPA on tracking course work

Semester 4:

  • 2.5 UF GPA required
  • Complete General Knowledge Test (GK) before reaching 60 hours.
  • Complete all 6 critical tracking courses with a 2.5 GPA on all tracking course work
