Although not specifically stated in each course description, the prerequisites for all courses, except those required by other departments, may include classification as an electrical engineering student in good standing. Also, a student cannot take a course with an EEL prefix unless the student has earned a C or better in all prerequisite EEL prefix courses.

An introduction to the theory and practice of electrical engineering for students not majoring in electrical engineering; circuits, machines, electronics and systems.

EEL 3111C Circuits 1.

Basic analysis of DC and AC electric circuits. Laboratory.

EEL 3112 Circuits 2.

Credits: 3; Prereq: EEL 3111C; Coreq: EGM 4313.

Continuation of EEL 3111 with emphasis on circuit applications of convolution, the Fourier series, and Laplace and Fourier transforms.

EEL 3135 Discrete-Time Signals and Systems.

Credits: 3; Prereq: MAC 2313, CGS 2425 or CIS 3020; Coreq: MAP 2302.

Difference equations, discrete convolution, the Z transform, discrete and fast Fourier transforms. State-space theory of discrete-time systems.

Transmission line equations, electrostatics, magnetostatics, time-varying fields, plane waves, introduction to antennas and waveguides.

EEL 3473 Electromagnetic Fields and Applications 2.

Maxwell’s equations, electromagnetic wave propagation in different media, antennas, waveguides, numerical methods, electromagnetic coupling.

EEL 3701C Digital Logic and Computer Systems.

EEL 4750C Introduction to Digital Signal Processing.

Fundamentals of filter design and Fourier transforms. Hardware implementation of filters. Simulation of signal processing systems using MATLAB.

EEL 4834 C++ Programming for Electrical Engineers.

Develop computer skills and art of writing good computer programs using C and C++ languages. Examples and exercises relevant to Electrical Engineering are used.

EEL 4912 Integrated Product & Process Design 1.

Credits: 3; Prereq: EEL 3304C and EEL 3701C.

The first part of a two-course sequence in which multidisciplinary teams of engineering and business students partner with industry sponsors to design and build authentic products and processes—on time and within budget. Working closely with industry liaison engineers and a faculty coach, students gain practical experience in teamwork and communication, problem solving and engineering design, and develop leadership, management and people skills.

EEL 4914C Electrical Engineering Design.

A series of seminars given by a group of faculty members in the department.

EEL 4939 Electric Utility Seminar.

Credits: 1.

A series of weekly seminars on the electric utility industry. Lectures from industry engineers include various technical topics related to power engineering.

EEL 4948 Practical Work in Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Credits: 1; Prereq: 3EG classification.

One term industrial employment, including extra work according to a pre-approved outline. Practical engineering work under industrial supervision, as set forth in the College of Engineering regulations. S/U only.

EEL 4949 Co-op Work Experience.

Credits: 1; Prereq: EG classification.

Practical co-op engineering work under approved industrial supervision. Grading is on a S-U basis only.

EGN 4930 Sales Engineer Seminar.

Credits: 1.

Intended for students interested in pursuing a career in sales engineering (required for students enrolled in the Sales Engineering Certificate Program). Lectures and discussions on practice-oriented sales engineering topics.
