The current PT program, which begins in the jun-ior year, may be changing to an entry level master’s program, effective Summer 2000. Those students plan-ning to apply for Summer 2000 admission should contact the dean’s office first to discuss status of the undergraduate program.
Physical therapy offers a challenging career for men and women who are interested in scientific and medical fields and who like to work with people. It requires knowledge in biological, physical and behav-ioral sciences such as psychology, gross and applied anatomy, physiology and pathology. It utilizes this knowledge in the application of current treatment philosophies and applied treatment modalities.
The physical therapist works
closely with the phy-sician, occupational therapist, nurse, speech language
pathologist, psychologist and other members of the health team as they
combine their skills and knowledge for the welfare of the
patient.
To be eligible to work as a physical therapist in Florida, a person must be licensed under the provisions of the Physical Therapy Practice Act, Florida Statutes, Chapter 486. State licensure for physical therapists is administered under the state of Florida’s Board of Physical Therapy. Examinations for licensure under this act currently are given three times annually.
The Master of Physical Therapy is awarded upon satisfactory completion of all requirements. This cur-riculum is accredited by the American Physical Ther-apy Association. Part of the academic requirements include successful completion of 22 weeks of field experience in facilities approved by the Department of Physical Therapy.
Course Sequence
This course sequence permits completion of gen-eral education requirements and physical therapy pre-requisites. Suggested course sequences may vary with AP or dual enrollment credit. Please consult a college adviser for a specific schedule. The SAT II is required for placement in CHM 2045.
