URP 2931 Seminar in Urban & Regional Issues
Credits: 3.
This course will focus on providing exposure to issues impacting the built and natural environments, including sprawl, growth management, community redevelopment and historic preservation, crime prevention through design, and applications of techniques such as geographic information systems and community visioning. The seminar will host a variety of speakers, as well as multi-media exposure to the issues.
URP 3001 Cities of the World
Credits: 3.
Comparative case studies of contemporary cities in the U.S. and a series of foreign countries both industrialized and developing will be covered. Special consideration will be given to energy consumption. (S, I)
URP 4000 Preview of Urban and Regional Planning
Credits: 3.
An overview of the comprehensive planning process designed for undergraduates who may be considering a career in urban and regional planning or who may be pursuing studies where some knowledge of the planning process is desirable. (H)
URP 4273 Survey of Planning Information Systems
Credits: 3.
Introduces students to concepts and theory associated with desktop Geographic Information Systems (GIS), as related to urban and environmental planning. Lectures, class assignments and homework assignments are required.
URP 4715 Bikeways Planning and Design
Credits: 3.
Planning and design of bicycle paths, greenways and facilities that form a network for non-motorized transportation. Oriented toward systems approach.
URP 4880 Crime Prevention Planning
Credits: 3.
Introduction to crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) and defensible space in urban planning design.
URP 4905 Special Studies
Credits: 1 to 3; maximum 6 credits.
Lecture, studio, seminar or current interest in urban planning. Topics vary by semester and range from geographic information systems to transportation planning.
