To remain ‘on track’ for this major, a student must meet the following critical tracking criteria.

Semester 1:

  • 2.0 UF GPA required for semesters 1-5
  • Complete either CHM, MAC or BSC course

Semester 2:

  • Complete CHM2045 and CHM2045L and either MAC2311 or BSC2010 and BSC2010L

Semester 3:

  • Complete CHM2045 and CHM2045L and either MAC2311 or BSC 2011 and BSC2011L

Semester 4:

  • Complete CHM2046, CHM2046L, MAC2311, BSC2010 and BSC2010L with a 2.5 GPA on all critical tracking course work

Semester 5:

  • Complete BSC2011 and BSC2011L with a 2.5 GPA on all critical tracking course work

Accelerated B.S./M.S. Degree Program: Consult the graduate coordinator.

Honors: To graduate cum laude, a student must have a grade point average of 3.5 at the junior/senior level. To graduate magna cum laude (high honors) or summa cum laude (highest honors), students must enroll in BOT 4905 for 1 or 2 semesters, respectively, and produce a thesis based upon independent research. Students must conduct the research under the direction of a botany faculty member(s) and prepare a thesis based on the research, which is to be submitted to and evaluated by the student’s research adviser and the undergraduate coordinator. Approval for honors work must be secured from the undergraduate coordinator before enrolling in BOT 4905.

The Minor: Students need a minimum of 15 semester credits with a grade of C or better. At least three courses (none of which may be individual study), of no fewer than three credits each, must be at the 3000 level or higher. No more than three credits may be for individual study. The undergraduate coordinator in botany has additional information.

Plant Molecular and Cell Biology Minor: Consult the undergraduate coordinator.

General Education: Seven botany courses are authorized for general education. Those recommended for non-science majors (no prerequisites) are Introductory Botany (BOT 2010), Practical Plant Taxonomy (BOT 2710) and Plants in Human Affairs (BOT 2800). Other courses (with prerequisites) are BOT 2011, 3151, 3303 and PCB 3034.
