Visiting Students

Visiting students, sometimes referred to as transient students, are those who are currently enrolled as degree-seeking students at another institution but who wish to take courses for a term at UF to transfer back to their home institution. Visiting students to UF are non-degree seeking and register on a space-available basis, which is summer terms A, B and C only. Availability is based on faculty, space and facilities.

Applying via Florida Shines

Undergraduate students attending a State University System or Florida College System institution should apply online at Florida Shines.

Undergraduate students attending a private Florida school or out-of-state institution, individuals registering for special programs sponsored by UF or students wishing to expand their academic background/teacher certification through the UF College of Education should apply via the Non-Degree Application link below.

Instructions for the non-degree application

  1. Complete the non-degree application fully. An incomplete or application with incorrect information will not be processed.
  2. If claiming Florida residency, this individual must provide at least two forms of residency documentation showing the original issue date.
  3. If claiming Florida residency under an exception category, the student should provide the required documentation listed on the form.
  4. Documentation can be uploaded via the secure document upload or faxed to 352-846-1126, Attention Non-Degree Residency.
  5. The application will be forwarded electronically to the UF college requested in the application. Colleges make the approval and may require additional information.
  6. Visiting international students must have their applications approved by the UF International Center.
  7. Once an application is approved, a UFID and registration start time will be created. An email is sent to prompt a view of a status update on the Application Status Page. This status page will provide registration directions, and information on the UFID and creating a GatorLink account.
  8. Before registration, a student must clear all holds, which include submission of immunization records to the UF Student Health Care Center, emergency contact information and accepting the terms of registration on ONE.UF. International students must furnish proof of health insurance.
  9. Course offerings are found in ONE.UF.
  10. Pay course fees online at ONE.UF by 3:30 p.m. on the fee payment deadline unless directed otherwise by your program coordinator.

UF Students Attending Other Schools

UF students who wish to attend another State University Sytem or Florida College System institution should apply online at Florida Shines. Applications completed via Florida Shines are referred to your UF advisor and the Office of the University Registrar within 3-5 business days.

UF students who wish to attend a private Florida college or an out-of-state institution should utilize the Transient Student Form. Once this form has been completed by both student and advisor, it should be uploaded by the student to the UF Registrar’s Office via the secure document upload.

If you are a financial aid or scholarship recipient, take a copy of the completed Transient Student Form to Student Financial Affairs (Financial Aid) in 107 Criser Hall to determine if your scholarship or financial aid can be used at the other school.

Upon completion of classes, UF regulations require that you request an official copy of your transcript from your visiting institution be sent to the University of Florida, Transfer Credit Evaluation, PO Box 114000, Gainesville, FL 32611-4000. You may ask that the transcript be sent electronically if the other Florida institution participates in the electronic transfer program.
