Please note the below updates implemented to the Waitlist as of the Fall 2026 Drop/Add period.

Registration Waitlist

Registering for classes can be stressful as students try to meet the curriculum needs for their discipline in a timely manner. When class occupancy is full, an eligible student can select the waitlist option to enroll in the class if a seat becomes available. The waitlist saves students from having to continuously monitor for an opening in the class. When enrolled students drop the class, eligible waitlisted students are moved up in the queue for vacated seats in the class. When registering for classes in ONE.UF, students can see the waitlist option (if available for the course) with an + Add to Waitlist button for the course offering if that class is closed. A waitlist for certain classes can become available as early as the first day of class enrollment.

Update: As of the start of Drop/Add for the Fall 2026 semester, waitlists will begin to be re-ordered in accordance with the below defined priority groups. Please note that students will retain their chronological position within each category below.

  • Category 1: Students who either have not taken the class or only have one (1) letter-graded attempt on their record will receive the highest priority. For this Fall 2026 semester, prior drops and/or withdrawals will not be considered letter-graded attempts at a class, though this may change in future semesters.
  • Category 2: Students with two (2) or more letter-graded attempts will receive the next-highest priority.
  • Category 3: Students who are on a waitlist for a class for which they are already registered for a seat for Fall 2026, regardless of the number of prior attempts, will receive the next highest priority.

Note: Not every class will offer a waitlist. It is up to the department offering the class.

There is no limit on the number of classes you may waitlist, and you are not fee liable until you register for the class. If you have successfully been added to the waitlist, you will receive emails and texts to alert you to enroll when a seat becomes available. Emails will be sent to your UFL.EDU email address and texts to the mobile number you provided in your ONE.UF profile. Notifications run hourly except between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m.

Update: As of the start of Drop/Add for the Fall 2026 semester, you will no longer see a specific number associated with your position on a waitlist because of the frequency with which the re-ordering of the waitlist will take place. This re-ordering of the waitlist will take place prior to the hourly notifications being sent.

When a class seat opens and you are notified, you have limited time in which to enroll from the waitlist. This can range from 4-24 hours, depending on the point in the registration cycle; however, it is advisable not to delay. If you do not enroll in the allotted time, you will be dropped from the waitlist. Waitlists are no longer active on the last day of drop/add.

Joining the waitlist does not guarantee you a seat in the class. You must meet the eligibility requirements and register for the class in a timely manner when you receive notification of an open seat.

The waitlist process will end the day prior to the last day of drop/add for the term. Courses on a student's schedule that are still in Waitlist status will be cleared at 12:00 a.m. on the last day of drop/add.

Removal from the Waitlist

Successful enrollment in a course will automatically remove you from any waitlists for other sections of the course.

If you no longer want to enroll in the class that you have waitlisted, it is your responsibility to remove yourself from the waitlist. If you registered from the waitlist and do not wish to take the class, it is your responsibility to drop the class before the last day to drop. If you fail to do this, you will be fee liable for the class, and you will receive a grade for the course.
