What are Alternative Credentials?

Alternative Credentials, also referred to as innovative credentials or micro-credentials, provide a means of recognizing skills and knowledge acquired through educational and experiential activities. Unlike traditional academic certificates and degrees, they are typically shorter-term, skill-focused, and may be stackable, enabling progression toward higher-level credentials.

Gator Experience Record: UF's Comprehensive Learner Record

Once implemented, the university's official Comprehensive Learner Record (CLR), known at UF as the Gator Experience Record, will empower UF students to tell their story more effectively, through a holistic view of their achievements at the University of Florida. The CLR will provide learners with an integrated view of both their co-curricular and curricular activities.

This record will showcase students' validated achievements and competencies, becoming an integral part of their learning journeys and helping them advance in their academic and professional careers. The new digital platform will display structured learning activities and achievements outside the classroom with experiential learning activities within the classroom that are not documented on the academic transcript.

Components of the Gator Experience Record include verified curricular and co-curricular experiential learning activities:

  • Credentials
  • Community-Based Learning
  • Creative and Entrepreneurial Works
  • Global and Sociocultural Learning
  • Leadership and Involvement
  • Professional Exploration and Development
  • Research
  • Internship, Co-op, and Work Based Learning
